Emma’s Tennis Party

Both directions draw from the same palette DNA — joyful, botanical, maximalist. The difference is emphasis and temperature: one is cream-warm, one is sky-cool.

Where it started

Both directions draw from the same palette DNA — joyful, botanical, maximalist. The difference is emphasis and temperature: one is cream-warm, one is sky-cool.

The stripe appears on every piece in both directions. It is the suite’s handshake.

Direction A

La Cour Rose

A

La Cour Rose treats the tennis party as a garden soirée — where the court happens to be grass, the champagne arrives at 2pm, and everything is composed with the unhurried confidence of someone who has done this many times before. The palette stays warm: linen as ground, fuchsia as the single bold note, garden green for botanical flourishes, coral for warmth. The floral tennis ball appears as a delicate engraved illustration — fine-line, not painterly.

What this world had still to settle
  • Whether an engraved line can carry a party at two in the afternoon. Fine-line and not painterly is the rule; the register it produces is closer to a wine label than to champagne on grass.
  • Whether the floral tennis ball is a joke or a mark. It is the signature of both worlds, and a ball that blooms is charming once and a logo nine times.
  • Whether fuchsia can stay the single bold note. Coral and garden green are both in the palette; the moment either is used at size, there are three bold notes and no single one.
  • Whether unhurried confidence can be designed. It is the stated register and it is the hardest thing to put on paper — most attempts read as sparse rather than assured.

Match Point Maximalia

B

The same botanical maximalism pushed into graphic territory: flat bold colour fills, Matisse-inspired cut-out shapes, Playfair Black at scale, and a sky blue ground that feels like looking straight up through the palms. The floral tennis ball — seams that bloom into tropical botanicals — is the signature that appears on every piece. The same party, told by a bolder hand.

What this world had still to settle
  • Whether sky blue as a ground survives outdoors. Looking straight up through the palms is the idea; on a table in real sun it is the one ground that competes with the actual sky.
  • Whether Matisse cut-outs stay cut-outs at small sizes. Flat bold shapes are the language, and a shape below a certain size is a blob rather than a cut.
  • Whether the same signature can serve two hands. The floral ball appears on every piece of both worlds, which makes it the one element that does not distinguish them at all.
  • Whether “the same party, told by a bolder hand” is two worlds or one. That sentence is the world's own description and it is also the strongest argument that this is a variation rather than an alternative.
The decision, as they saw it

Cream-warm, or sky-cool.
